ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 18. The gross regional product of Mangistau region has grown 1.3 times over the past two years and reached 3.7 trillion tenge (about $7 billion) in the first nine months of last year, said President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev at a meeting on socio-economic development of the region, Trend reports.
"Today, I specifically came on a working visit to Aktau to assess the current situation in the region and discuss important issues. It’s important to note that Mangistau holds special significance for our country. This region is strategically important and serves as Kazakhstan’s western gateway," the President noted.
He also highlighted that the region’s economic growth for the first quarter of this year stood at 104.8 percent. Over the past two years, more than 2 trillion tenge (approximately $3.8 billion) have been invested into the local economy.
"The region is growing every day, and its population has now surpassed 800,000. During my recent working visit to Shymkent, I pointed out that migration should not be left uncontrolled. According to projections, in the medium term, the population here could reach 1 million, or possibly even exceed it. This would place additional strain on both the economy and social infrastructure. We must keep this factor in mind and avoid populism," he added.
The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev visited a number of important economic facilities during his working trip to Mangistau, including Aktau International Sea Port, Yessenov Technopark, BS Arena sports complex and others.
