ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, July 18. Germany’s Rhenus Group is planning to expand its cargo transportation volumes through Turkmenistan, Trend reports, citing the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Belgium.
The announcement followed a meeting in Brussels between Turkmenistan’s Ambassador to Belgium, Sapar Palvanov, and Heinrich Kerstens, Director for Strategic Projects at Rhenus Group. The discussions centered on Turkmenistan’s potential as a key link in the transcontinental transport network connecting Europe and Asia.
Heinrich Kerstens noted that, amid ongoing global shifts in supply chain logistics, Central Asia—particularly Turkmenistan—is gaining prominence due to its reliability and geographic position. He highlighted the growing importance of the international seaport in Turkmenbashi and the country’s extensive railway infrastructure.
The Rhenus representative emphasized that the company views Turkmenistan not just as a transit corridor, but also as a promising location for sustainable and stable logistics operations. In addition, Rhenus expressed interest in supporting the export of Turkmen products, including access to European markets.
Ambassador Palvanov reiterated that the development of high-tech transport infrastructure is among Turkmenistan’s national priorities. He pointed to the country’s continued investment in highways, railways, and port facilities aimed at bolstering its role as a logistical bridge between East and West.
The sides agreed to strengthen cooperation and continue dialogue at the expert and technical levels.
