Azerbaijan successfully cooperates with 70 Russian regions, Russian Presidential Interregional and Cultural Ties with Foreign Countries Department head Sergey Vinokurov said in Baku at a round-table on "Russia and Azerbaijan: Through the Expansion of Interregional Cooperation to Strengthen Strategic Partnership."
"Azerbaijan cooperates with 70 regions, has signed bilateral agreements with 37, and plans to sign similar agreements with another 11," Vinokourov said.
He said the roundtable addresses urgent issues, as the relations between the two countries are developing dynamically and inter-regional cooperation is a factor in their strategic partnership.
Azerbaijan and Russia cooperate in various fields, including economy, energy, politics and culture.
"For example, since the beginning of its activities, the Russian company Lukoil has invested over $1.5 billion in the Azerbaijani economy," Vinokourov added.
He expressed his willingness to discuss giving the current round-table an annual status.
Based on Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee data, trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Russia exceeded $1.65 billion in 2009.
