Syria, Iran agree on introduction of customs privileges

Iran and Syria have agreed to reduce the maximum rate of customs duty that applies in the foreign operation between the countries, from 80 to four per cent, Syrian Minister of Economy Mohammed Shaar said at the exhibition of Syrian products in Tehran, the Syrian agency Sana said.

"Introduction of customs privileges is supposed to be in the framework of the free trade zone creation between Iran and Syria," Shaar said.

Iranian Trade and Industry Minister Mehdi Ghazanfari, in turn, noted that Iran and Syria are going to triple their trade.

Head of the Syrian exporters' organisation Mazen Hammura said it is also necessary to solve the problem of remittances through the banking system, as that unsolved issue is creating obstacles to trade relations between Syria and Iran.

An exhibition of Syrian products In Tehran began on April 29. It will continue until May 2. The main purpose of the exhibition is to introduce Syrian products to Iranian exporters.
