The Dashoguz region will join the cotton sowing in Turkmenistan on March 31, 2021, Trend reports with reference to Turkmenistan: Golden Age electronic newspaper.
The Dashoguz region is the last where the work will begin. Thus, the work has already begun in the Akhal, Balkan, Lebap and Mary regions of the country on March 24, 2021.
This year, 620,000 hectares of sown areas have been allocated for cotton. In general, 1.2 million tons of cotton are planned to be harvested in the country, including 280,000 tons in the Akhal region, 10,000 tons in the Balkan region, 275,000 tons in Dashoguz, 320,000 tons in Lebap, and 365,000 tons in Mary.
Last year, more than 1.2 million tons of raw cotton were delivered to the state.
Reportedly, agriculture in Turkmenistan is developing rapidly. It is one of the most important sectors of the country's economy. The main types of agricultural crops grown on the territory of Turkmenistan are wheat, cotton, rice, sugar beet, fodder, vegetable, and fruits.
The development of agriculture is carried out on a scientific basis. Various types of agricultural crops are grown taking into account the agro-ecological characteristics of the country's regions.
Special attention is paid to increasing the volume of products in Turkmenistan. As a result, in recent years, the country has increased the production of vegetables and fruit, and berries and enlarged the area of perennial plants, vineyards, and greenhouses.
