Azerbaijan, Baku, 6 February / Trend / On 5 February, Ilham Aliyev, the Azerbaijani President, has approved of the protocol on cooperation in the field of natural gas, which was signed in Baku on 12 December between the Azerbaijani and Italian Economic Development Ministries.
According to the protocol, the Azerbaijani gas will be transported via Turkey and Greece to Italy. According to the Italian Prime Minister-Pier Luigi Bersani, some 8bln cu m of gas is expected to be transported from Azerbaijan to Europe by 2012.
" Italy is the largest natural gas consumer. And cooperation with Azerbaijan will expand the opportunities of export of gas to Italy," the PM said during the signing ceremony.
