Iran has completely halted gasoline import to increase the octane rating of gasoline produced by domestic petrochemical units, Fars News Agency quoted the Managing Director of National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company Jalil Salari as saying.

"The gasoline import halted completely to increase octane rating of domestic gasoline production," he said.

He noted that Iran has exported about 500,000 tons of basic gasoline and 18,000 tons of gasoline recently.

Iran's gasoline consumption reduced during the holy month of Ramadan to 60 million liters per day.

Total of $1 billion has been invested in Tehran Oil Refinery to improve the quality of its gasoline production.
