By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:
Iranian Fuel Conservation Company is implementing five projects worth $13.8 billion in the transportation sector, Executive Director of the company Mohsen Delaviz said, Trend reports referring to the National Iranian Oil Company.
“The company will also implement two projects worth $2.2 billion in the construction sector,” Delaviz added. “Some 1.2 million barrels of crude oil have been saved over the past two years and the emission of 528,000 tons of carbon dioxide into atmosphere has been prevented.”
"Iran consumes about 320 million barrels of crude oil per year in the transportation sector," the executive director said. “Some 3,000 trucks were renewed to reduce consumption. Moreover, important projects such as use of electric taxis and buses are expected to be implemented.”
“But this is not enough,” Delaviz said. “Iran must also focus on saving fuel in the automotive industry. Iran still produces cars consuming 20 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers. Meanwhile, this figure is 5.4 liters in the world.”
Iran's energy consumption is at a high level, and the company was established to address issues in the field.
