BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 31. Azerbaijan's payment card turnover through ATMs and POS terminals saw a significant leap of 3 billion manat ($1.7 billion), marking a 30.03 percent rise in December 2024, climbing from 10.1 billion manat ($5.9 billion) to 13.1 billion manat ($7.7 billion).
Data obtained by Trend from the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) shows that the total number of payment card transactions amounted to 195.6 million (up by 45.76 percent over the year), including 6.5 million transactions worth 286 million manat ($168.2 million) carried out abroad.
In total, there were 181.6 million debit card transactions, racking up a hefty 12.2 billion manat ($7.1 billion). Out of these, 16.1 million transactions, totaling 4 billion manat ($2.3 billion), took place at ATMs within the country, while 48.9 million transactions, amounting to 878 million manat ($516.5 million), were conducted through POS terminals domestically.
Bank customers carried out 14 million credit card transactions,
both at home and abroad, amounting to a total of 893 million manats
($525.3 million).
During this period, POS terminals handled more than 6.31 billion
transactions totaling 202 million manat ($118.8 million), while
ATMs managed 451,000 transactions amounting to 117 million manat
($68.8 million).
As of January 1, 2024, Azerbaijan saw a significant rise in the number of payment cards, with an increase of nearly 2.9 million, or 17.57 percent, compared to the same time last year. The total now stands at 19.8 million, up from almost 16.9 million a year prior.
