BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 14. In the first seven months of 2024, maritime freight shipments in Azerbaijan hit the high seas and sailed past the 4.9 million-ton mark, making an 8.2 percent year-on-year decrease, Trend reports.
Data by the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan shows that maritime passenger traffic during the reporting period amounted to 15,700 people, up 23.6 percent compared to the same period in 2023.
Meanwhile, over eight million tons of cargo were transshipped through Azerbaijan's seaports, of which 80 percent (6.4 million tons) accounted for transit cargo.
To note, of Azerbaijan's export freight transportation, 48.6 percent was oil.
As of August 1, 2024, the volume of cargo in the nation's ports amounted to 350,400 tons.
In 2023, freight transportation by all types of transport in Azerbaijan amounted to 230.2 million tons, which is 5.3 percent higher than the 2022 figure.
In comparison, the nation's passenger transportation during the reporting period exceeded 1.9 billion people, which is 18.7 percent more than the previous year's figure.
