Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan have reached an agreement allowing Afghanistan to participate in a Kyrgyz-Tajik cross-border transit pact, according to an August 29 Asian Development Bank statement , Central Asia Online reported.

The three nations agreed on Afghanistan's participation in the Cross-Border Transit Agreement (CBTA) at a Bangkok meeting. The pact streamlines customs inspections and reduces regulations on transfer of shipments between vehicles, easing transportation of people and goods across borders.

The CBTA is meant to connect East Asia and the Arabian Sea through Central Asia. Afghan, Kyrgyz and Tajik officials plan to sign a protocol on Afghanistan's accession to the CBTA at a Central Asia Regional Economic Co-operation conference in Baku in November.
