Maysa Yazmuhammedova was elected as chairperson of the Turkmen National Centre of Trade Unions, the Turkmen government said today.
This issue was by a unanimous vote at a meeting of the Fourth Extraordinary Congress of the Turkmen National Centre of Trade Unions. Heads of the regional trade unions, activists of enterprises and representatives of public organisations attended it.
The delegates unanimously approved a draft resolution submitted for discussion which reflects the priority tasks of the country's trade unions for the near future.
'Special attention was paid to the role of trade unions in the people's life and the intensification of the trade union activity during the forum', a statement said.
Participants stressed the need to continue operations to improve the legal culture of citizens to protect their interests and the legitimate rights and create favourable conditions for their inspired and highly productive labour.
The Turkmen trade unions consisting of more than 1.8 million members are the largest public organisation in the country.
They include 14 branch, five provincial, 49 regional and nine municipal associations. The primary organisations were created in enterprises, institutions, organisations and farmers associations.
Local media stressed that the unions work to create safe and optimal working conditions and to improve the living conditions of workers and their families. Currently, the primary trade union organisations have concluded 4549 bilateral collective agreements as well as 152 regional and sectorial agreements.
The National Centre of Trade Unions together with Parliament operates to strengthen the legal framework, including the projects of labour, family and administrative codes.
