Turkmenistan celebrates Oraza bayram

Turkmenistan celebrates Oraza Bayram the Islamic holiday on the occasion of the end of fasting during the holy month Ramadan. August 8 has been announced as a day off.

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov congratulated compatriots on Thursday.

"Holy Oraza Bayram is a holiday rich in spiritual values, preaching humanism and compassion," the presidential message said. "The rich spiritual heritage created by the Turkmen people is a part of human values. This wealth is a spiritual bridge between the past and the present."

President Berdimuhamedov stressed the merits of Turkmen thinkers who taught the religion and philosophy of Islam as the source of justice, gratitude, kindness and humanity.

It was earlier reported that Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed a decree on Pardon of convicted people in honour of the holy night Gadyr Gijesi'.

Gadyr Gijesi is the holy night for the Islamic world which falls to Ramadan.

Around 1166 convicts were pardoned. They were released from a further sentence and given an additional penalty in the form of living in a particular area.
