BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 21. Iran increased its imports from Azerbaijan during the first month of the current Iranian year (from March 21 through April 20, 2025), rose by 66 percent in value, while the volume surged 30-fold compared to the same month of the previous year (from March 20 through April 19, 2024).
Data obtained by Trend from the Customs Administration indicates that the country imported products worth $95,200 from Azerbaijan, totaling 40 tons in weight.
The data shows that Iran's imports amounted to only $57,300 and 1.3 tons during the same period last year. The imports included various types of equipment, compressed soy, different profiles, and other industrial goods.
Despite this rise in imports, overall trade turnover between the two countries in that month stood at approximately $32.7 million and 51,000 tons — a drop of 6.16 percent in value and 19.6 percent in weight compared to the same month a year earlier.
The Iranian Customs Administration data indicates that Iran’s total non-oil product imports in the first month amounted to $2.85 billion and 1.8 million tons. While the value of these imports grew by 2.3 percent, the volume fell by 26.4 percent compared to the same period last year.
Iran mainly focuses on importing essential products that the country needs and imposes certain restrictions on the import of similar products produced in the country.
