BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 23. Iran is focused on increasing production potential from the Bilal gas field, a joint project with Qatar, aiming to raise output to 14.2 million cubic meters per day, said Ehsan Mohammadi, an official from the Iranian Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC), Trend reports.
Speaking today, during an event marking the departure of the jacket for the Bilal gas field, Mohammadi explained that the field contains sour gas, which complicates both extraction and development efforts.
As part of the first phase of development, a well has been drilled, costing $30 million. With the installation of the jacket on the well, work will proceed under the second phase of development.
“Support is crucial for the production efforts at the Bilal gas field. The Iranian Ministry of Oil and the National Oil Company are utilizing all available resources to develop this field,” Mohammadi said.
It is estimated that the Bilal gas field holds around 3 trillion cubic feet (around 85 billion cubic meters) of gas and 100 million barrels of gas condensate. Iran aims to produce 500 million cubic feet (around 14 million cubic meters) of gas and 15,000 barrels of gas condensate daily from the field.
The development of the Bilal gas field has been entrusted to Iran's Petropars Company under a contract signed in 2019 with Pars Oil and Gas. As part of the contract, a platform must be designed and installed, pipelines laid, and eight wells drilled.
The jacket, which weighs 3,000 tons and stands 75 meters tall, was produced by Marine Industrial Company (SADRA) in Bushehr province, Iran, at a cost of $16 million.
