Georgia, Tbilisi, Aug.19 / Trend, N. Kirtskhalia /
Tbilisi City Court will pass a sentence on the husband of Georgian Ex-Speaker Nino Burjanadze, the former Head of Georgian Border Police Badri Bitsadze who is currently in absentia, the lawyer Levan Samushia told journalists today.
Bitsadze is charged with part two of Article 353 of the Georgian Criminal Code on, "confrontation, threat, or violence against the defenders of public order or other authorities by a group". The case concerns illegal actions on protest actions of the "People's Assembly", held in Tbilisi during the five days prior to dispersion on the night of May 26.
Samushia said that the case materials do not prove Bitsadze's guilt and that his case "framed from beginning to end."
Samushia said that if the sentence is "illegal and unfair", it will be open to appeal in higher courts. "At first, we will await the final court decision. We will talk about future plans later", he said.
Bitsadze's whereabouts are still unknown. Presumably, he left Georgia after the events in May. His wife, Ex-Parliamentary Speaker Nino Burjanadze, said she is unaware of his whereabouts.
