One PKK terrorist killed, two captured

One member of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) was killed and two others were captured alive in clashes that erupted between Turkish troops and PKK terrorists in the eastern city of Batman, the Turkish General Staff said in a statement posted on its Web site yesterday.

During searches in the mountainous parts of the Hasankeyf province on Saturday, Turkish troops rendered three PKK militants ineffective and also obtained their weapons. In other searches in the eastern Turkish city of Siirt the same day, two village guards were wounded by PKK militants the while security forces launched an operation to capture the fleeing terrorists.

The security forces discovered a stash of explosives on the Diyarbak?r-Mus highway around noon on Saturday, seizing six kilograms of ammonium nitrate planted by the PKK. Expert teams defused the explosives after closing the road to traffic for several hours.
