Irakli Kavtaradze intends to pay special attention to economic cooperation if his candidacy for the post of Georgia's Ambassador to Azerbaijan is approved.

"Our countries have excellent relations now. I fully understand the responsibility that will be rested upon me if I am appointed ambassador," Kavtaradze told Trend today, before representing his candidacy at a meeting of the parliamentary bureau.

"My task will be to strengthen existing ties and their intensification," he said, promising to to represent Georgia in Azerbaijan with dignity.  

Now, Kavtaradze serves as Deputy Committee for Foreign Relations in the parliament. So, MPs say they would support his candidacy as he has rich experience in diplomatic affairs. Moreover, he is the Secretary for External Relations of the ruling party - United National Movement.

Vano Noniashvili was appointed Georgia's ambassador to Azerbaijan last year. He was resigned January 28 and has never arrived at its destination. The diplomat resigned for personal reasons, Georgia's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ia Makharashvili told Trend .

Nikolaz Natbiladze served as Georgia's ambassador to Azerbaijan from November 2007 until December of 2009.
