Since the beginning of last century, the Armenians killed about two million Azerbaijanis and Turks, chairman of the Azerbaijani Parliament Oktay Asadov said on Friday at a special session of Parliament dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide.
He said Azerbaijanis were subjected by Armenians to physical destruction and moral pressure on their own, historically they owned land. In 1949-1951 hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijanis were deported from Armenia.
"In 1988-1993 about one million Azerbaijanis were driven out from their lands in Azerbaijan and Armenia. After this, the occupation of Azerbaijani territories began. The genocide in Khojaly was the most terrible tragedy in the history of this aggression," Mr Asadov said.
He noted both before and after the Khojaly there were mass killings of Azerbaijanis in some settlements in the occupied territories.
For the first time the legal assessment of the Khojaly tragedy was given by national leader Heydar Aliyev, Mr Asadov said.
He noted that the occupation must have consequences for the Armenians themselves, who should make conclusion.
"We are sure that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict will receive its fair solution, and organizers of crimes will be punished," the speaker said.
