BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 9. The Committee on International Relations and Inter-Parliamentary Relations of the Azerbaijani Parliament has sent an open letter to the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations in connection with the hearings to be held in this committee on Karabakh, Trend reports.
"The organization of these hearings is not at all surprising, since this is another manifestation of prejudice, manipulation and discrimination against Azerbaijan, supported by certain circles in the US Congress. From the first day of Azerbaijan's independence, radical Armenian groups and the forces supporting them in Congress have chosen a path of action that encourages aggression against Azerbaijan and provokes radicals to commit serious crimes that cause suffering to people. The Republic of Armenia expelled 250,000 Azerbaijanis from their native lands on the territory of modern Armenia, kept 20 percent of the internationally recognized territory of Azerbaijan under occupation for 30 years, and committed other serious crimes against Azerbaijanis. The international community, including the UN and other international organizations, condemned these barbaric acts, but radical supporters were able to prevent assistance from being provided to the Azerbaijani people who were victims of aggression. At the same time, the aggressor state Armenia received generous assistance.
After the multinational and multi-religious people of Azerbaijan restored the sovereignty and territorial integrity of their state in 2020, the prospect of peace has once again appeared in the region. The triumph of justice brought hopes for peace, normalization and reconciliation to the region. Azerbaijan took this opportunity to offer Armenia a peace agreement based on international law. International support for this, including from the US government, has led to noticeable results. But every time there is hope of signing a peace agreement, Armenia returns to its notorious tactics that it has used for the last 30 years: creating the appearance of negotiations, retreating from previous agreements and avoiding fulfilling its obligations. It should be noted that Armenia does not fulfill its obligations to withdraw its armed forces from the territory of Azerbaijan, which is a source of instability in the region. This country supports separatism by all possible means, turning residents of Armenian origin in Karabakh into hostages, using them to implement their insidious plans. In this regard, it should be noted that the organization of the above-mentioned hearings serves to fuel instability and conflict in the region. Despite all this, Azerbaijan will continue to suppress actions directed against its sovereignty, seek peace, normalize relations and reintegrate its citizens of Armenian origin within the framework of its Constitution," the letter said.
Meanwhile, hearings in the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations on Karabakh will be held on September 14.
