About 33,000 people accused of psychotropic substance methamphetamine production and distribution have been arrested in Iran since early, official Hamidrza Hussein-Abadi was quoted by the Iranian İLNA agency as saying.
In general, about 100,000 people were arrested. They were accused of drugs production, usage and distribution. About 151 tons of various drugs were revealed.
He said about 738 groups involved in drug smuggling were neutralized during this period.
Iran is located in a transit corridor between raw opium producing Afghanistan and its customers in Europe. The Iranian authorities spend millions of dollars for programs to combat drugs.
