ASTANA, Kazakhstan, February 6. Kazakhstan’s oil and gas company KazMunayGas is completing the construction of a seawater desalination plant in Kenderli, Mangystau region, Trend reports, citing KazMunayGas.

The company informs that the main construction works for the project have been completed. The facility, with a capacity of 50,000 cubic meters per day, will address the shortage of drinking water in the city of Zhanaozen and free up resources from the Astrakhan-Mangyshlak main water pipeline for industrial development in the region. Engineering infrastructure works are 97 percent complete.

"The installation of the main water pipeline for supplying desalinated water to Zhanaozen (201 km), the construction of an 83 km power transmission line, and a 40 km road have been completed; the installation of a 46 km gas pipeline is 97 percent complete," KazMunayGas noted.

Marine works for laying intake and discharge pipelines are expected to be completed in February-March 2025.

To note, a total of 350 people and 60 units of equipment are involved in the construction. The facility is scheduled to be commissioned in May 2025.
