ASTANA, Kazakhstan, February 6. The Anti-Corruption Service of Kazakhstan has become a member of the executive committee of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA), Trend reports via the press service of the Agency for Combating Corruption of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

"On February 6, during the 14th plenary session of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA), Askhat Zhumagali, Chairman of the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Combating Corruption, was elected to the executive committee of IAACA, the governing body of the organization," the statement says.

Along with Kazakhstan, the leaders of the independent anti-corruption commission of Hong Kong, and the anti-corruption commissions of Malaysia and Singapore also joined the executive committee.

"The Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Combating Corruption highly appreciates the efforts of IAACA to promote high anti-corruption standards and consolidate international efforts in the fight against corruption," noted Zhumagali.

IAACA unites over 180 anti-corruption agencies and international organizations. The association plays a key role in assisting the effective implementation of the UN Convention Against Corruption, developing and implementing anti-corruption tools, providing technical and expert assistance, and strengthening cooperation among anti-corruption agencies.

"Kazakhstan's membership in the governing body of IAACA will strengthen expert and technical potential, advance ongoing anti-corruption reforms, and enhance cooperation on issues of corruption prevention and suppression, providing legal assistance, extraditing criminals, and recovering illicit assets," stated the Anti-Corruption Agency.

In May 2024, the agency signed a memorandum of understanding with the anti-corruption agency of Hong Kong. Under this framework, investigators from both countries hold regular meetings, joint training sessions, and exchange experiences.

IAACA President Danny Woo expressed confidence that Kazakhstan's initiatives would make a significant contribution to advancing the anti-corruption agenda in Central Asia.At the IAACA meeting, members discussed joint plans and projects aimed at reducing corruption levels and combating bribery.

Additionally, the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA) is an independent and non-political anti-corruption organization established at its inaugural Annual Conference and General Meeting held in Beijing, China, in October 2006. The main objective of the organization is to promote the effective implementation of the UN Convention Against Corruption, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly.
