TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, May 8. Uzbekistan has approved the site plan for the construction of a Small Modular Nuclear Power Plant (SMNPP), which will be built in collaboration with the state corporation Rosatom, Trend reports, citing the Atomic Energy Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan (Uzatom).
The decision was made during a joint meeting of the operational headquarters and the scientific and technical council, chaired by the Presidential Advisor on Energy Security, Alisher Sultanov.
The approved site plan designates the location for the SMNPP in the Farish district of the Jizzakh region. This decision aims to adapt the project to regional conditions and ensure efficient electricity generation, tailored to the specific needs of the area.
During the meeting, a detailed presentation was made outlining the progress of the project under the contract with Atomstroyexport JSC. Participants reviewed the key stages of design, preparatory work, and measures for cooperation with international partners. Special attention was given to the stability of contract fulfillment and the importance of strictly adhering to the established deadlines.
Meanwhile, it is worth noting that in May 2024, Uzbekistan signed its first-ever export contract in the nuclear energy sector, which provides for the construction of the SMNPP. According to the project, a nuclear power station with a total capacity of 330 MW will be built in the Jizzakh region, including six RITM-200N reactor units, each with a capacity of 55 MW.
