BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 15. Iran is currently conducting discussions with Russia and Turkmenistan to secure gas imports, Saied Tavakoli, Deputy Oil Minister and Managing Director of National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), told reporters, Trend reports.
Tavakoli expressed hope that negotiations with both countries would yield positive results.
He noted that during the winter season, gas shortages in Iran could reach daily levels of 300 million cubic meters, and in some cases even 350-400 million cubic meters. Steps are being taken through various programs to reduce shortages and ensure efficient gas distribution.
The deputy minister also stated that Iran aims to maintain last year’s level of gas exports, with gas deliveries to Türkiye expected to continue through 2026. Talks on sustaining exports to Türkiye are ongoing, and Iran acknowledges that all countries in the region currently have significant demand for natural gas.
Iran holds the world’s second-largest gas reserves, estimated at around 34 trillion cubic meters, with 22 active gas fields currently in operation. Presently, Iran’s daily gas production exceeds 1 billion cubic meters.
