Azerbaijan's industrial production ups by 6 percent

In the first quarter of 2010, the amount of industrial production in Azerbaijan hit 7.1 billion manat, which is 5.6 percent higher than the same period of 2009, the State Statistics Committee reported.

The amount of production in the extractive industry increased by 6.2 percent to 5,513 billion manat (with weight 77.2 percent).The specific weight of the processing industry hit 16.7 percent (7.7 percent increase), gas and power engineering - 5.7 percent (2.5 percent increase)and water sector - 0.4 percent (1.7 percent increase).

The growth of the oil production by AIOC hit 7.8 percent to 10.2 million tons and gas production decreased by 8.2 percent to 2.8 billion cubic meters.

In the first quarter of 2010, share of the private sector increased by 5.8 percent and hit 81.1 percent of the total industry production.

The amount of the production in processing industry amounted to 1191.39 million manat. During the reported period, significant growth was observed in chemical production- 277.8 percent, production of cars, trailers and semi-trailers - 13.9 times, and machinery and equipment - by 62.6 percent.

The country's food production increased only by one percent. The production of pasta in the country increased by 4.3 percent to 1260.9 tons, meat - 3.9 percent (41,400 tons), milk - 3 percent (158,900 tons), butter - 0.9 percent (3,600 tons), and jams and preserves - at 14.8 percent.
