The Customs Control Department of the Kazakh Zhambyl region filed the second criminal case on radioactive coal supplies to Kyrgyzstan, Novosti-Kazakhstan reported on Friday with reference to the Customs Control Committee under Kazakh Finance Ministry.
"The department filed a criminal case on removing radioactive coal on border of the Customs Union on Feb. 6," the Committee said.
Kazakhstan supplied 8,576 tons of coal from Kulan field to Kyrgyzstan in September. Later, the Kyrgyz party estimated the radiation background of the Kulan field at 8-10 times more than the norm. According to the bilateral agreements, all radioactive coal will be returned to the supplier.
Earlier, Kazakh Zhambyl region prosecutor's office filed a lawsuit on the export of radioactive coal to Kyrgyzstan by Kulan TB Company.
