Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov has approved customs duties on glassware and bottles imported to the country, the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported March 16.
At the government meeting, he noted that the phased transition to the market economy is accompanied by the solution of problems on the supply of the domestic market with high-quality goods capable of successfully competing with imported analogues.
“Implementation of the activities envisaged as part of the relevant state programs will help to increase competitiveness of the national economy, which is the determining factor in the development of foreign trade,” the report said.
The relevant managers were instructed to prepare a draft document on determining the amount of customs duties for certain types of imported industrial and construction materials.
A glass plant was put into operation in Ovadandepe in Akhal province of Turkmenistan in mid-February 2018. The plant produces transparent and tinted, laminated and tempered glass for the manufacture of windows and glass units, bottles for the food industry and medical industry.
The production is based on local raw materials: silica sand, dolomite, limestone and other components.
Turkmenistan actively develops production of construction materials in the recent years. New innovational products are being manufactured along with traditional constructional materials such as cement, non-metallic products, expanded clay, aerated concrete etc.
