The volume of online commerce in Kazakhstan exceeded 700 million tenge ($1.8 billion) in 2019 which is 1.8 times more than in 2018, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Trade and Integration Bakhyt Sultanov said, Trend reports with reference to the press office of Kazakhstan’s prime minister.
Sultanov talked electronic commerce development during the Government meeting chaired by Kazakhstan’s Prime Minister Askar Mamin.
The share of online commerce in total retail trade increased from 2.9 percent in 2018 to 3.7 percent in 2019. The volume of purchases in Kazakhstan's online stores amounted to 422 billion tenge ($1.1 billion), in international online platforms to 280 billion tenge ($743.1 million).
The volume of non-cash payments increased by 2.3 times and amounted to about 14.4 trillion tenge ($38.2 billion) in 2019 compared to 6.4 trillion tenge in 2018 ($16.9 billion). The growth was due to the development of trading POS-terminals infrastructure, the entry of Apple Pay and Samsung Pay to Kazakh market, the stimulation of customers by banks via bonuses and cashbacks, as well as the active use of cashless payments on all types of public transport.
Export of Kazakh goods via online commerce reached $5 million in 2019. Some 21 Kazakhstani companies sell 594 types of goods to the EAEU countries via Wildberries company’s online platform. The geography of sales will expand to EU countries in the near future.
Mamin in turn instructed to work out measures to expand export of goods via electronic platforms, to work out mechanisms for infrastructure developing, and to focus on educating entrepreneurs on aspects of effective electronic commerce.
He also instructed to update the Roadmap for e-commerce development till 2025 adopted last year.
