Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:
An important project, implemented by Switzerland in Georgia, is the Alliances Caucasus Program (ALCP), targeting the development of the livestock value chains, Swiss Federal Office for Agriculture told Trend.
"Through it, over 55,000 farmers (32 percent of them - women) increased their incomes due to improved services and markets; 240 jobs were created; about 8 million CHF ($8.9 million) additional income was generated by farmers and enterprises," the source said.
According to the Swiss Federal Office for Agriculture, thanks to their flexibility, these regional programs also played an important role in reacting to sudden needs resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.
"In 2021, among others a new phase of the regional project "Small Credits" will be launched with the aim of increasing the regional impact of the overall Swiss Cooperation Program by supporting civil society organizations in their work on topics such as gender equality, good governance, social inclusion and leave no one behind," the source noted.
In addition, Switzerland also supports regional programs intended to promote exchange, dialogue, peace and stability in the region, by strengthening the resilience of the region to external economic, social and climate-related shocks.
For instance, in 2020, Switzerland promoted women economic empowerment in Georgia while supporting the country’s efforts to join the Equal Pay International Coalition.
