The program to develop alternative energy sources in Azerbaijan will last until 2015 in the short term, and 2020 in the long term, Azerbaijani Alternative and Renewable Energy State Agency Deputy Director Jamil Melikov said.

"Our plan is to divide our medium- and long-term goals until 2015 and before 2020," Melikov said at a round-table today on alternative energy.

He added that the agency is interested in wind and solar energy, biogas, thermal energy, as well as the use of energy generated by small power plants.

Industry and Energy Minister Natiq Aliyev said the agency has already finished establishing a development program in this sphere.

About 1 million manat were allocated for primary research of alternative energy sources. Roughly 40 million manat were allocated for pilot projects from the state budget, Aliyev said.
