Azerbaijan, Baku, May 17 / Trend E. Ismayilov /

Azerenergy (production and distribution of electricity in Azerbaijan) will export electricity to Turkey via Georgia in 2012, the company told Trend today. Previously, it was envisaged that export of electricity from Azerbaijan to Turkey will begin in 2013.

According to the information, the operations are underway to reconstruct transmission capacity to ensure the export operations.

"After all the technical work completed, export of electricity to Turkey will be possible this year," the company said.

Electricity is planned to be exported from Azerbaijan to Turkey using the Energy Bridge project by connecting the power systems of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey.

It is necessary to reconstruct the transmission power lines to the border between Azerbaijan and Georgia to ensure export operations. The Georgian side must also complete the construction work on its territory.
