Value of oilfield services provided in Kazakhstan plummets

The value of services provided in oil and gas sector of Kazakhstan decreased by 36 percent in 2020 compared to 2019 and amounted 2.1 quadrillion tenge ($5 trillion), General Director of the Union of Kazakhstan's Oilfield Service Companies Nurlan Zhumagulov said, Trend reports.

Zhumagulov made the statement during a briefing held Mar. 18, 2021.

Zhumagulov noted that only 40 percent of this value accounted for Kazakh oil service companies.

The largest share of oilfield services accounts for oil and gas construction, the amount of payments within which amounted to 1.1 trillion tenge ($2.6 billion) in 2020, showing a 40 percent drop compared to 2019.

The second largest share accounts for drilling services, the value of which amounted to 361 billion tenge ($862.3 million), a decrease of 11 percent in 2020 compared to 2019.

The design and engineering services sector, which has the lowest number of Kazakh companies (12 percent of total) amounted to 251 billion tenge ($599.5 million) of provided services and declined by 36 percent year-on-year.

The maintenance and repair segment amounted to 247 billion tenge ($590 million), which is down 47 percent, whereas geology and geophysics services were provided for a total of 193 billion tenge ($461.01 million), which also is down by 25 percent.
