ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, July 15. Azerbaijan may expand its capacity to supply energy to Europe as the country develops partnership with Turkmenistan, Trend reports.
According to the analytical review of The National Interests portal, Turkmenistan's participation in the TANAP (Trans-Anatolian Gas Pipeline) project will only strengthen the EU's energy security.
The review notes that in 2022, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met to discuss the transportation of Turkmen gas to Europe.
At the meeting, Erdogan stressed that the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP), a critically important project to deliver natural gas from Azerbaijan to Turkish markets and, ultimately, to Europe, operates with a total capacity of 32 billion cubic meters.
The portal emphasizes that the transportation of Turkmen gas to Türkiye and Europe via TANAP is the most convenient option available at the moment.
TANAP is part of the Southern Gas Corridor through which Azerbaijani natural gas is imported to Southern Europe.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan reports that from January through April 2023, the country exported a total of 3.9 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Europe, which indicates an increase in gas exports by 10.5 percent year-on-year.
