Iran increasing length of its freeways

Iran's government has increased the length of the freeways in the country by 2,860 kilometers, while some of the freeways would be extended to 3,500 kilometers, said Iran's Minister of Roads and Urban Development Mohammad Eslami, Trend reports via IRNA.

"The country's freeways have increased since the Islamic Revolution until today, and are expected to be extended further by the new Iranian year (starts March 21,2021)," said Eslami.

"The private sector and the capital market are expect to provide finances for inauguration of 5,000 kilometers of freeways by the end of the current government's ruling term (June 2021)," he said.

Eslami said that the remaining 9 kilometers of the Qazvin-Rasht freeway, which include a bridge and a tunnel, is currently in the works, and it will be completed by the end of the government's ruling term.

"About 230,000 kilometers of roads in the country's villages were asphalt and 115,000 kilometers more are to be completed," he said.

"Launching high speed train with 300 kilometers per hour speed is one of the railway projects in the Ministry of Road and Urban Development," he said.
