Moscow and Dushanbe have good prospects for developing relations and their diversification, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday at a meeting with the head of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, RIA Novosti reported.

"What I have noticed lately, and that pleases: it is not only that we are developing relations in many areas, and here not only the economy but also military cooperation, we have a full functioning base in Tajikistan, I am very grateful to you for your support of its work, but our relations in regional terms are developing well," Putin said.

He said more than 70 Russian regions maintain relationships with partners in Tajikistan.

"When relations rise to this level, it means that the mutual interest thus becomes the fundamental, the base. These are good conditions for the diversification of our relations. I'm sure it will be so," the president of Russia said.

Rahmon, on his part, noted that cooperation between the two countries do not have serious issues unresolved.

"We have always understood and treated with great respect the interests of our strategic partner - Russia - in Tajikistan. I think that Russia must respect the interests of its ally," Rahmon said.
