Uzbekistan, Japan hold ministerial consultations

Promising spheres of cooperation in political, trade, investment, cultural and humanitarian spheres were discussed by representatives of foreign ministries of Uzbekistan and Japan at regular ministerial consultations held in Tashkent on Friday, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said.

At the consultations the Japanese side was represented by the country's Parliamentary Senior Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Ryuji Yamane, Special Representative of the Foreign Ministry of Japan on Central Asia Toyohisa Kozuki, Japanese Ambassador to Uzbekistan Yosihisa Kuroda and other representatives of the Japanese Foreign Ministry.

The meeting confirmed mutual interest in all-round development of cooperation, regular dialogue between the foreign ministries.

Special attention was paid to the fulfillment of agreements reached during President Islam Karimov's official visit to Japan in February 2011.

During the negotiations it was noted that long-term joint projects in key sectors of the economy, such as the modernization of Talimarjon TPP, electrification of the Karshi - Termez railway section play a significant role in the Uzbek-Japanese partnership.

"The sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues," the ministry said.

Previous consultations between the foreign ministries of Uzbekistan and Japan were held in Tokyo in December 2011.
