Persian Gulf has always called for peace, friendship: Mottaki

Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said here on Monday that the Persian Gulf has always called for peace, friendship, security and resistance.
   
Mottaki made the remarks while addressing a group of students after ringing the national bell of Persian Gulf in the al-Zahra girls high school in this southern city, IRNA reported.

The Iranian FM is currently in Bandar Abbas to attend the 20th International Seminar on the Persian Gulf being held on November 22-23 by Tehran-based Institute for Political and International Studies.

He further referred to pivotal role of the Persian Gulf in both regional and international developments.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has so far proved that despite all enemies' conspiracies, it can remain independent for ever without depending on any foreign power, Mottaki reiterated.

He praised resistance of the Iranian nation and government against all pressures and plots of the West.

Regional developments and emergence of global challenges such as financial crisis and terrorism will be among topics to be discussed by participants in the event.

The delegates will also study war and consequences of occupation of the two countries of Iraq and Afghanistan, ecological crises and the necessity for regional cooperation.
