Mahmoud Bahmani, the head of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI), has said Iran doesn't only use the U.S. dollar for its trade transactions and countries can use their own currencies for payments.
The government's news service IRNA reports that Bahmani said Iran has no problems accepting gold as payment in lieu of cash.
China and India pay Iran with goods instead of cash, the CBI chief said.
While commenting on Iran's foreign currency supply, Bahmani said, "Importers are supplied with the currency they need and they'll face no problems with this."
Reports indicate that in the face of mounting international sanctions, Iran is having difficulty getting paid for its exports, especially oil.
