In accordance with the decision of the Iranian Cabinet of Ministers the island of Abu Musa will be turned into a tourist zone, Mehr news agency quoted head of the organization of the cultural heritage of handicrafts and tourism of Iran Hassan Mousavi as saying on Tuesday.

He said this decision was made to attract more foreign and local tourists.

The islands of Abu Musa and Greater and Lesser Tunbs are the subject of the dispute between Iran and the the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Earlier the UAE sent a protest note to Iran over Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's visit to disputed island of Abu Musa.

The note says that the UAE government condemns Ahmadinejad's visit to Abu Musa Island as it negatively affects the negotiations between the two countries over the disputed islands.

Ahmadinejad's visit to Abu Musa Island last week caused outrage with the UAE government. Abu Dhabi has recalled its ambassador in Tehran and stated that the Iranian president paid this visit at a time when the two countries came to an agreement to resolve this problem through joint efforts.
