No effort will be spared in order to remove sanctions imposed on Iran, Iranian president Hassan Rouhani said in presence of media outlets, Press TV reported live.
This is the first official press conference of Hassan Rouhani, since he was elected and inaugurated as the new president of Iran.
Answering a question regarding the sanctions, he said that the goal of these sanctions is to pile up pressure on people.
"These sanctions are unfounded. We cannot even buy wheat for our people, we're facing problems, as other countries are being pressured not to deal with Iran," Rouhani said. "It doesn't have anything to do with nuclear program.
He went on to note that people of Iran have proven to stand against foreign pressure.
"We as people, serve the nation, we adopt logical domestic and foreign policy. People want the economic problems to be solved, and this should be on top of our agenda," Rouhani noted. "We will never sit idle. We have our own plan, which you can call "economy of resistance" or whatever. We will follow it and spare no effort regarding the removal of sanctions."
On 14 June 2013, Hassan Rouhani won the presidential elections in Iran, gathering over 50 percent of total votes.
Rouhani previously said that he will work towards the removal of western sanctions, adding that his government will adopt moderate policies and actions.

The U.S. and its Western allies suspect Iran of developing a nuclear weapon - something that Iran denies. The Islamic Republic has on numerous occasions stated that it does not seek to develop nuclear weapons, using nuclear energy for medical researches instead.
Despite the rules enshrined in the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) entitling every member state, including Iran, to the right of uranium enrichment, Tehran is under numerous sanctions for turning down West's calls to give up its right of uranium enrichment.
