Baku, Azerbaijan, Sept. 22
By Fatih Karimov - Trend: The first semi-industrial petroleum coke production unit of Iran was inaugurated.
The production unit has a capacity to produce 27,000 barrels of petroleum coke per day, Iran's Shana news agency reported on Sept. 22.
Petroleum coke is one of many valued consumer products produced during the oil refining process. Petroleum coke is typically used as a source of energy, or as a source of carbon for industrial applications.
Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) has implemented the project over the course of 38 months.
Aluminum industries are highly dependent on petroleum coke. Some 475,000 tons of aluminum is produced in Iran per year, which requires around 200,000 tons of petroleum coke.
Iran's annual aluminum production is projected to reach 1.5 million tons by 2025, which needs around 600,000 tons of petroleum coke.
