Georgia, Tbilisi / Trend corr. N.Kirtskhalia / The Georgian Parliament can start working even if 2/3 MPs will attend the first session. This was stated by the juridical department of the Central Election Commission (CEC). "No boycott is expected against the work of the Parliament. Main is that 2/3 or the Constitutional majority should attend the first session," CEC said.
At present, the ruling United National Movement party has collected 101 votes. The party will have 119 or 120 MPs in the Parliament in compliance with proportional and majority elections.
The decision to boycott the new Parliament by the United Opposition (18.2%), Labour (7.6%) and Christian-Democratic movement (8.2%) will not yield any results.
The issue regarding the legitimacy of the Parliament occurred in 2003, when the then President, Eduard Shevarnadze, managed to collect quorum after he persuaded the New Rights to take part in the session of the Parliament on 23 November. However, Mikhail Saakashvili with his supporters came to the Parliament and the so-called the peace revolution 'Revolution of roses' began.
