A Russian Cosmos-3M rocket carrier sent a military satellite into orbit on Tuesday, said a spokesman for the Russian Space Force, Xinhua reported.
The rocket took off from Plesetsk cosmodrome Tuesday morning, and the satellite reached the designated orbit one and half hours later, Alexei Zolotukhin said.
This is the third military satellite launched by Russia this year.
Russia reportedly runs a system of 60-70 military satellites with reconnaissance, missile early warning and other capabilities.
The Cosmos-3M is a liquid-fueled two-stage rocket, first launched in 1967, with over 410 successful launches to date. The booster has been designed to lift a payload of up to 1500 kg into low, medium and high orbits.
