Azerbaijan, Baku, 19 June / Trend corr J. Babayeva/ Azerbaijan's Muasir Musavat political party believes it will win the elections. "I think the main rivalry during the upcoming presidential elections will be between me and the authorities' candidate," Chairman of Muasir Musavat Hafiz Hajiyev said to Trend on 19 June.

Azerbaijan will host the presidential elections on 15 October. Musavat party has already nominated its Chairman Isa Gambar, Azerbaijan Democratic Party - Sardar Jalaloglu, the Greens Party nominated Mais Gulaliyev and the Popular Front Party of Unified Azerbaijan nominated Gudrat Hasanguliyev. The head of the public forum Eldar Namazov stands for presidency as an independent candidate. The governing New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) will nominate country's current President Ilham Aliyev. Pro-governmental parties Ana Vatan and Social Prosperity Party decided to support Ilham Aliyev at the elections. Bloc Azadlig uniting three opposition parties (Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, Citizen and Development Party, Liberal Party) intends to boycott the elections.

Hajiyev said for the time being no party can rival with Muasir Musavat, except for governing New Azerbaijan Party. "If the governing party wins the elections, we will shake hands with them. We will take either first or the second place. We are real opposition. As to other parties calling themselves opposition, several of them avoid the elections because they are afraid. As to IsaGambar, who is also intending to participate in the elections, I blocked him at the presidential elections of 2003. If he again runs for presidency, he will get his response again," Hajiyev said.

Hafiz Hajiyev was chairman of the State Concern Azarbalig in 1992-93. He was a member of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, Musavat party. In 2000, Hajiyev established Muasir Musavat party, which was registered in 2002. Muasir Musavat considers itself a constructive opposition party.
