Other Political Parties not Expected to Join Statement of Some Azerbaijani Opposition Parties

Azerbaijan, Baku, 9 September / Trend corr. J.Babayeva / The Azerbaijani opposition Musavat party thinks that other political parties will not join the joint statement of some opposition parties on the presidential elections. "I do not expect that number of parties participating in new cooperation format of the opposition will be increased," Arif Hajili, the head of the Central Executive body of Musavat party told Trend on 9 September.

The presidential elections will be held in Azerbaijan on 15 October. The parties included in Azadlig bloc the (the Popular Front Party, the Liberal Party and the Citizen and Development), the Musavat Party and the Public Forum 'For Azerbaijan' signed a joint statement on recognition of the elections as illegitimate on 5 September. Authorities, which will be formed after the presidential elections, are announced as illegitimate in the statement.

According to Hajili, negotiations are not being held on some opposition parties' joining this statement. "Parties, which were envisaged to join the statement, held different position on this issue,' he said. Hajili refused to comment on the Azerbaijani Democratic Party's (ADP) opinion on that the joint statement would deliver serious damage to future cooperation of the opposition. He considers the party's position as incorrect.

Hajili said that the meeting of the Musavat Divan focused on activity prospects of new cooperation centre of the opposition and situation in the region on 8 September. "It was decided to hold several measures in connection with Baku's liberation from invaders on 15 September. On that day, the Musavat party will visit memorial of the Turkish soldiers at Martyrs' Alley, as well as organize round table and different measures on this topic," he stressed.
