Poland will hold an extraordinary presidential election, Reuters reported.
Based on the Article 131 of the Polish Constitution adopted in 1997, if the fact of the death of Polish President Lech Kaczynski is confirmed, Marshal of the Sejm Bronisław Komorowski will assume the duties of the President.
Polish President Lech Kaczynski was killed when a plane carrying 132 people crashed in thick fog on its approach to a Russian airport Saturday, killing everyone on board, officials said. A plane carrying Kaczynski has crashed in Smolensk. RIA Novosti reported that 87 people were killed in the crash near Smolensk, and a regional governor was quoted as saying there were no survivors.
