Turkey has a real chance amid the increasingly protracted Libyan crisis to solve it. All hopes are pinned on Ankara, member of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Fevzi Shanverdi said, commenting on the long-running political crisis in Libya.
"Turkey plays an important role in world politics, and given the increasing role of Turkey in the region, we can say that Turkey has a chance to solve this problem," he Told trend over phone
He also heads the Turkey-Libya inter-parliamentary friendship group.
He said that Turkey is one of the few countries that can negotiate both with the Libyan opposition and Gaddafi. It will facilitate resolving of the problem.
"Ankara sends its representative for negotiations with the Libyan opposition and representatives of Qaddafi to rapidly resolve the problem," he said.
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan proposed an action plan to establish peace in Libya. He called for to withdraw the forces loyal to Gaddafi from their besieged cities, as well as to establish the humanitarian corridors and tol conduct the broad democratic reforms.
These measures will be discussed in Qatar next week at a meeting of the contact group set up to manage international operations in Libya. The group includes the EU countries, the U.S. and its allies in the Middle East, as well as several international organizations.
Libya has seen mass unrest against the Gaddafi regime from Feb. 15. The people are protesting Gaddafi, who has ruled the country for 40 years. The number of the dead has hit thousands of people.
The UN Security Council adopted a resolution on March 17 calling for the introduction of a no-fly zone over Libya and approving the possibility of foreign military operations. The operations were launched on March 19, which are mainly attended by Great Britain, France, U.S, Canada, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Denmark.
The leadership of the campaign in Libya completely moved to the representatives of the NATO command on March 31. The operation of the North Atlantic Alliance was called "United defender". It aims to ensure the embargo for arms supplies, no-fly zones and measures to protect the civilian population.
He said that Turkey stands for the Libyan people to decide their fate themselves. Official Ankara is against foreign intervention in Libya.
"One of the points of the negotiations on the Doha Conference, to be maintained by Turkey, relates to the fact that NATO must not leave their forces in Libya," he said.
