Principals of Several Baku Schools to Be Ousted from Position

Azerbaijan, Baku / Тrend corr S. Ilhamgizi / The Azerbaijani Education Minister Misir Mardanov will discharge from position the principals of several Baku secondary schools on 19 November, the Minister said at a meeting dedicated to centralized test-exam system in secondary schools on 16 November.

According to the Minister, final test-exams for the students in their 11th year of study are held in a centralized order in Azerbaijan. First testing exams based on centralized system will take place on 25 November, 2007.

Final estimation of the examinees will include the marks received in secondary school and the results of last exams.

Principals of many schools, and even some teachers, try to prevent centralized test-exams, even the employees of the Education Ministry also create obstacles, Mardanov said.

"Some principals and teachers cut the bush they are sitting on. But they will fail in preventing our work. Those trying to put obstacles in our way will immediately get their bitters," the Minister said.

A definite number of students in secondary schools in Sabail, Khatai, Yasamal, Sabunchu, Binagadi, Nasimi, Surakhani, and Azizbeyov districts in Baku with assistance of the principals were transmitted to other schools in order to avoid centralized test-exams, he said.

Mardanov ordered to reveal the names of the principals. He will discharge them from position on 19 November.

"In this case we will not make concessions to anybody," the Minister said.
