Social networking site Facebook can be taken under the control of the press councils. This issue was discussed at the 12th annual meeting of the Alliance of Press Councils in Europe, which took place in the Dutch capital of Amsterdam, the press service of the Press Council of Azerbaijan said.
At the meeting it was noted that so far the network has not been monitored by any organizations, and it was regarded as a source of free links. And this has often led to the realization of the purposes of sabotage. Use of this network by the terrorist networks, particularly Al Qaeda, for their purposes causes concern of the world media. The meeting discussed the role of press councils in this situation, discussions were held on the possibility of establishing control over Facebook social networking site. It was decided to discuss these issues at a meeting of the World Association of Press Councils, which will be held this year in Nepal.
The chairman of the Press Council of Azerbaijan Aflatun Amashov also made a speech at the meeting, describing the activities of the organization, particularly good practice in considering complaints, as well as statistical indicators in this regard. Presentation by Amashov on the new version of "Rules of professional ethics of Azerbaijani journalists" was accepted with interest by the participants.
According to Amashov, the Press Council of Azerbaijan is very sensitive to the social networks and other online sources. He also said that the Council already considers a complaint about one of the sites in the network.
